Iranian security forces ‘raping’ girls and boys as young as 12 in ‘torture’ tactics

Iranian military outfits have been “raping children as young as 12” in desperate attempts to put an end to nationwide uprisings against the regime, Amnesty International has revealed. In a report released on Thursday, Amnesty International alleged that Iranian security forces had been “committing horrific acts of torture” against protesters, many of which are under 25, including “beatings, floggings, electric shocks, rape and other sexual violence”.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, which forms the main body of the nation’s military, has resorted to extreme measures to quell the nationwide protests, according to Amnesty International.

They alleged that the IRGC, the paramilitary Basij, the Public Security Police, and other security and intelligence forces had been using torture methods post-detainment to punish and humiliate young protesters.

They said it was part of a scheme to extract forced “confessions” from the protesters.

The regime has been executing dozens of participants of the uprisings, many of which were justified on trumped-up charges and false confessions.

Diana Eltahawy, Amnesty International’s Middle East and North Africa Deputy Director, said Iran’s “violence against children exposes deliberate strategy to crush the vibrant spirit of the country’s youth and stop them from demanding freedom and human rights”.

She claimed that Amnesty had obtained testimonies from the victims and their families detailing the extent of the horrific torture endured against scores of children.

Some 19 eyewitnesses, including two lawyers and 17 adult detainees were able to corroborate the claims.

The report read: “A former detainee told Amnesty that, in one province, Basij agents forced several boys to stand with their legs apart in a line alongside adult detainees and administered electric shocks to their genital area with stun guns.

One boy said: “They gave us electric shocks, hit me in my face with the back of a gun, gave electric shocks to my back and beat me on my feet, back and hands with batons.

“They threatened that if we told anyone, they would [detain us again], do even worse and deliver our corpses to our families.”

The torture tactics are part of a widespread attempt by the Iranian regime to put an end to the mass uprisings against them.

The country has been in turmoil for seven months after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was killed by the regime’s morality police. She was detained for improperly wearing her hijab.
