Alireza Akbari, who was sentenced to death after being found guilty of “corruption on earth and for harming the country’s internal and external security by passing on intelligence”, had been executed, the judicial news agency Mizan Online reported on Saturday.
Iran had accused Akbari of being a spy for Britain’s MI-6 intelligence agency. It aired a highly edited video of Akbari discussing the allegations resembling others that activists have described as coerced confessions.
