Russian official urges E3 to stop following US stance in Vienna talks

Ismail Shabanov, President of the Talysh Diaspora group, told IRNA on Sunday that following Washington’s policies is a big mistake that the European Union is committing; so, the bloc is expected to adopt independent stances when it comes to Iran and revival of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Referring to the fact that the United States breached international regulations and Resolution 2231 of the United Nations Security Council when the Trump administration withdrew his country from the JCPOA in May 2018, Shabanov noted that the Americans are taking stances, which are not within the framework of the nuclear deal, while Washington does not have any right to dictate anything to the signatories to the accord, but the White House still tries to resort to putting forward excessive demands in order to get concessions from Iran.

Shabanov who is also a member of the Russian Council on inter-ethnic relations added that the Iranian delegation has taken constructive and rational stances in the seventh round of talks in Vienna, Austria, and proposed Tehran’s demands in draft texts.

The European troika attempted on several occasions to force Iran to retreat from their demands, but the Iranian negotiators’ steadfastness pushed back the Western powers, he said.

The West usually resorts to a propaganda campaign to force the other side to recoil when it comes to negotiations, but in Vienna talks the Europeans could not achieve their goal and the Iranians foiled the plot and insisted on their position.

Three European states accepted to return to the talks in the next round of negotiations and resume discussions on a joint document, which is acceptable by the Iranian side.

Representatives of Iran, the European Union, and the P4+1 group (Britain, France, Russia, China plus Germany) reached a consensus to pursue the talks based on two documents, which include viewpoints and suggestions of all delegations on two topics of lifting sanctions and nuclear issues.

Moreover, the Russian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Saturday, expecting that the eighth round of talks in Vienna would reach a fast agreement accepted by all sides.

According to Permanent Representative of Russia to the International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov, the seventh round of talks has opened a window for editing the existing documents.
