8th round of Vienna talks; hard choice for P4+1

According to IRNA correspondent in Vienna, the opening of the Joint Commission meeting of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) is going to be held within a few hours with the presence of top diplomats from the P4+1, European Union, and Iran.

Resuming Vienna talks amid the Christmas and New Year holidays indicates that the European sides are ready to show their seriousness to hold negotiations. Of course, the Iranian negotiating team, comprised of legal, political, economic, and technical experts has shown firmness in keeping on the talks.

At the beginning of the seventh round of Vienna talks, Britain, Germany, and France resisted accepting Iranians’ draft texts on lifting sanctions and nuclear issues in order to put pressure on the Iranian team, but they accepted a draft document at the end of the seventh round, which includes Iranian proposals and agreements made at previous six rounds of talks.

The Western sides resorted to media hype along with intensive consultations aimed at forcing Iran to give more concessions, but the Iranian negotiators stood firm and called for the removal of illegal sanctions.

Western media propagated negative titles on Vienna talks in a bid to foment tension in Iran’s markets and pursue their unconstructive agenda, while the West, especially the United States, violated the JCPOA and refused to abide by its commitments under the international deal.

Such propaganda campaign has been used as leverage against the Iranian negotiating team, which led to the slow pace of talks in Vienna.

However, the draft document agreed upon in the last meeting of the seventh round of talks consists of viewpoints of all parties directly involved in the negotiations.

Observers believe that around 80 percent contents of the draft are those proposed by the Islamic Republic.

Some reports say that the eighth round of Vienna talks may last long in order to pave the ground for reaching a final agreement.

Taking hard decisions seems to be part of this round of talks; so, it is expected that the Western sides would resort to media hype, putting blame on Iran and issuing unilateral statements in a bid to gain more of the negotiations.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian said on Thursday that the West is expected to lift all nuclear-related sanctions in order to get rid of their concerns on the Iranian nuclear program; so, when other signatories to the JCPOA comply with their commitments, it can be expected that all sides return to the deal.
