Iran lifts pandemic ban on flights to and from Pakistan, France

Iran drops Pakistan and France from list of air travel destinations with high coronavirus risk.
Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) has allowed a resumption of flights to and from Pakistan and France after designating the two countries as safe enough considering the risk of infection with the coronavirus.

CAO spokesman Mohammad Hassan Zibakhsh said on Tuesday that flights to and from Pakistan and France had been reinstated earlier in the day after a two-month suspension.

Zibakhsh said, however, that Iran will continue to enforce an outright ban on flights to 13 countries where the highly-infectious British variant of the coronavirus has not been fully contained.

He said Pakistan and France will remain in a list of 26 countries still deemed by Iran as having a high rate of infection to the virus, adding that flights to those countries will continue to face restrictions.

Iran has managed to contain a fourth wave of coronavirus infections that began to circulate in the country in early April.

Authorities imposed a ban on travel to Pakistan and India later that month to prevent the spread of the so-called Indian variant of the virus.

Health ministry authorities said on Tuesday that the number of daily infections with the coronavirus had increased by 10,216 to over 3.04 million while number of deaths had soared by 134 since Monday afternoon to a total of 82,351.

Iran’s nationwide vaccination campaign against the coronavirus gained a fresh momentum on Monday with an announcement showing that the country’s flagship vaccine against the disease had obtained all certificates needed for an injection rollout.

The country has carried out nearly 5.5 million injections since late December using vaccine supplies from abroad.
