Foreign Ministry spokesperson Saeed Khatibzadeh said on Saturday that the top Iranian diplomat will begin his trip to the two Arab countries at the head of a delegation on Sunday.
He added that Zarif’s visits to Baghdad and Doha would take place “in the framework of developing bilateral ties [and] regional and extra-regional talks.”
The Islamic Republic has always emphasized that it attaches great significance to maintaining growing relations with regional countries, including Iraq and Qatar.
In a meeting with Iraqi National Security Council (INSC) Advisor Qasim al-Araji in Tehran earlier this month, Zarif said regional countries are capable of ensuring security and urged foreign forces to leave the region.
He added that the expansion of relations with neighboring states, including Iraq, which has numerous commonalities with Iran, has always been a priority for the Islamic Republic.
Meanwhile, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani told Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in a phone conversation on April 13 that regional issues, including the ongoing crisis in Yemen, should be solved through diplomacy and negotiations, warning against the “dangerous” presence of the Israeli regime in the region.
Rouhani stressed the importance of utilizing Tehran-Doha capacities to further improve ties in all fields, particularly in the trade and economic sectors.
