Iran attack: Explosion near Israeli embassy left letter warning of further terror strikes

The small blast in the Indian capital may have been triggered in the name of assassinated general Qasem Soleimani and nuclear scientist Doctor Mohsen Fakhrizadeh. No one was injured in the explosion, it happened on the day of the 29th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Israel. Mahender Singh Manral, a reporter with the Indian Express, tweeted: “Minor blast near Israel Embassy.

“A letter found in an envelope addressed ‘to Israel Embassy ambassador’.

“The letter contains a threat and describes the explosion as a ‘trailer’

“Also refers to two ‘Iranian martyrs’, Qasem Soleimani and Dr Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

CNN contributing editor Aditya Raj Kaul today tweeted: “Sources say two Iranian nationals are being questioned by the Delhi Police Special Cell in connection with the Israel Embassy explosion yesterday.”

Tehran has accused Israel of the assassination of Doctor Mohsen Fakhrizadeh.

The letter found in the same spot was addressed “to Israel Embassy ambassador”.

Iranian Major General Soleimani was assassinated by the United States in a drone strike in January 2020.

He was killed at Baghdad airport in a strike ordered by US President Donald Trump.

Former US president Mr Trump said the general was “directly and indirectly responsible for the deaths of millions of people”.

Doctor Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, an Iranian nuclear scientist was killed by a remote-controlled weapon in November 2020.

Israel had accused Doctor Fakhrizadeh of secretly helping to develop Iran’s nuclear weapons.

Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said there were “serious indications of an Israeli role’ in the assassination” of Doctor Fakhrizadeh.

Then Iranian media said the scientist had in fact been killed by a remote-controlled weapon “controlled by satellite”.

In November 2020 Israel’s Intelligence Minister, Eli Cohen, said he did not know who was behind the killing.
